In my experience working with adolescents & young adults, I have worked with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety disorders, suicide risk/self harm, mood disorders, trauma/PTSD, bipolar disorders, impulsivity, & co-occurring disorders. By implementing the skills of DBT, CBT, crisis intervention/de-escalation, art & animal therapy, mindfulness, self-esteem based interventions & communication skills, I specifically inform & provide clients with coping skills such as radical acceptance, wise mind/mindfulness, opposite action, walking the middle path, mechanisms for distracting, validation, & communication.

My goal is for a client to establish both past and present interpersonal issues, which will allow me to provide a safe space for clients to explore & dissect the root of their struggles. If the client is interested, my two-year-old golden retriever, acting as an emotional support dog, can be implemented into the counseling sessions.

I believe in providing clients with a safe space where they feel comfortable disclosing the truth behind what they are feeling, thinking and going through. I act both as a counselor and a soundboard to help guide clients in their journey to understanding their mental health struggles along with being able to accept, cope, and further improve their lives.

Melissa Tiefer, LPCA

Nobody should be expected to navigate life alone. Having an objective non judgemental person to talk to is essential. Life can be difficult with many frightening transitions. I specialize in healing children, adolescents, and adults with complex trauma and PTSD. I am certified in Emotional Freedom Technique which takes the sting out of painful traumatic experiences. Once completed, clients are able to narrate their experiences without the painful emotions once attached to those experiences. I have extensive experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to heal depression and anxiety. I help clients identify their automatic negative self-talk and separate the facts of these thoughts from the fiction of how we speak to ourselves. Using CBT helps clients realize that there is a kinder, more realistic way to think about themselves. This promotes positive self-thoughts and behaviors which naturally lifts depression and anxiety, promoting self worth and confidence. I also specialize in couples counseling. I utilize Emotionally Focused Therapy which is based on Attachment Theory which is the most studied and proven theory of human bonding behavior. Once clients understand how to securely attach with one another, there is a 75 percent success rate of having a healthy productive relationship.
